ARTIST STATEMENT
All of my jewellery pieces are handmade using sterling silver and flameworked glass. Using long colored Italian glass rods measuring 3mm in diameter and 13 inches long and a torch, I create small, detailed glass beads for my jewellery designs. You will often find silver, gold and palladium leaf in my glasswork as well as intricate patterns that require a keen eye and a steady hand. Each glass bead is handmade one at a time and no two are exactly alike. Each with its own unique details, these precious glass gems are enhanced with a sterling silver counterpart, custom-made for each bead.
My jewellery is made using traditional methods but is contemporary in style. I draw much of my inspiration from the linear forms of Renaissance architecture, the intricate patterns of ethnic textiles and the brilliant colours found in botanical gardens.
I take pleasure in knowing that each jewellery piece is completely handmade. I enjoy all aspects of the jewellery design process - from the challenge of finding the balance between both silver and glass, to the colour selection process, and the meticulous precision work.
When creating a jewelry piece I strive for perfection; I want my work to be elegant, unique and of the finest craftsmanship. I view my work as wearable art; my goal is to craft objects of adornment that are progressive, challenging, and at the forefront of contemporary jewelry. |
